January Joys at The Little Holding - Seeds, Soil, and Monetisation!

As the first month of the year comes to the end, it's time to shake off the frost and get our hands back into the earth. January at The Little Holding has been a blend of chilly mornings, hopeful seedlings and an exciting YouTube goal has been reached.

🌶️ Sowing the Seeds of Summer in Winter

It may seem a bit odd to start sowing chilli and pepper seeds in January but these take a long time to grow and we find it helps to get a head start early. Our windowsills are turning into a miniature greenhouse nurturing these little seedlings, every year we vow to sow only a few chillis and this year I feel like we may actually be keeping our promise.

Seed Selection: We've chosen a mix of Jalapeno, Ancho & Biquinho.
Chilli growing note: Please make sure you use heat mats and lights if you’re starting your chillis and peppers this early, otherwise they will be unlikely to germinate and if they do they’ll get very leggy with the amount of sun light we currently have. These are the lights and heat mats we use.
Germination Tips: Chilli seeds can take a few weeks to germinate but if it seems like it’s taking a bit too long then place a few extra seeds in some damp kitchen roll, inside a plastic bag or tub and put them somewhere nice and warm. This can speed up germination and help you decide if somethings wrong with the seeds or not.

What have we been loving this week?

🤖The creator - We both absolutely loved this sci-fi movie on Disney + . A film based on a war between humans and robots with artificial intelligence did seem rather topical but the movie is so much more than just that. We were actually in shock when we saw it had such a low rotten tomatoes score, definitely deserves higher than 68%, we recon IMDb has it correct with a 9/10.

📖Normal People - Sally Rooney - I (Ryan) put off reading this book because of the hype, there’s always a worry things won’t live up. I saw too many people starting to wear Connell chains for my liking. But I take it all back, the book is brilliant, relatable, emotional and gives a great insight into how relationships shape who we are. A book I’d certainly recommend.

🍳 Nisbets - Ever wondered where restaurants or caterers get their cooking equipment from? This is one of those places. Need a toaster that toasts 24 pieces of bread at the same time, say no more, this place has your back.
